UCH doctors protest against poor facilities and threaten to go on strike.

the Association of Resident Doctors at the University College Hospital over 600 members of them , staged a protest on Friday in ibadan against what they termed as poor working conditions, unpaid salaries and absence of basic facilities at the hospital.

ARD chapter President, Dr. Olusegun Olaopa, said to the journalists that the hospital management over looked the welfare of the association’s members, adding that the Federal Government had also failed to address problem presented to it through the Ministry of Health.

He further said that if the situation continued the same by January 12, 2017, the doctors would go on a strike in compliance with the directives of the National Association of Resident Doctors.

Mr Olaopa said, “We are putting this protest to register our displeasure at the state of equipment in our hospital and government’s inaction to address it.

“he said, on December 12 2016 which is already gone There is an ultimatum that was issued by the NARD.

The Federal Government neglected the ultimatum, leaving the sick peoples in the health sector not being attended to.

“he said, One of the issues of the sector which we want the government to look into is the National Health Act.

It is obvious  that since this law was passed in 2014, it has yet to be worked upon.

The Act is to assured the universal health care for the populace.

“Today, what we have in place can only take care of one per cent of the nation’s population.

The Federal Government is not truthful about the problems because they can afford to go abroad to access health care.

“he further added that In UCH, the CT Scan equipment and other equipments are not working.

The drugs for Emergency  peoples are also not available.

The Federal Government make to  public that ills could visit UCH to access free health care.

He said that This is not possible because the facilities and drugs which is needed are not there.

He further said It was just a political talk and to put the lives of doctors and the masses at risk.

“It is also unfortunate that in UCH today, doctors are not collecting full salaries he said.

While some workers have been paid November and December 2017 salaries, the doctors have not been paid, he added.

“he said,There is a circular that assured adjustment of grade levels for all doctors.

It is unfortunate that in UCH, this is not happened.

The Federal Government talks about ‘no work, no pay’; what of people who have worked but have not been paid.

All these issues are not in other teaching hospitals.”
