pensioners has accused banks of refusing to pay pensions.


The Nigerian Union of Pensioners has alleged  banks of not agree to pay pensions of its members after reportedly collected apportion for the payment from the Federal Government, the have not given the retirees the Christmas and New Year celebrations.

Mr Arashi Lawal The Vice-Chairman, NUP, Federal Branch, Lagos, said the money was perticular meant to settle December 2016 pensions for the federal for those who are permanently stop work.

He alleged three defferent  banks of holding back the  amount of money that is used for payment of pensioners  and also denying them pensioners  the opportunity of celebrating the christmas and New Year celebtation with their families.

He said, “This is not good; some of the banks have paid a some pensioners but three big banks have not paid a vey big numbers of the those who permanently stop work.

 And we  know  that our money is with them because the Pension change from one state, the said that the Arrangement Directorate told us that the money had been given out to them.

“It is very annoying  to see people who work with you getting paid while you are not paid. This means not hopeful Christmas and New Year for those that is not paid.”

Mr theodora Amechi The Head Corporate Communications, PTAD, said the organization was “ very attractive with the relevant authorities to make sure a quick solving  of the problem;

I ask people to support the pensioners to please have patient with us.

 The 33 per cent an unpaid and overdue debt will also be paid as soon as an amount of money that is used for it are available.”

Some of the pensioners that is affected that spoke to our correspondent on the problem said they had not been paid for years now and the  have no money to celebrate Christmas and the New Year.

The affected those who stop work permanently, that expressed fears that not yet payable hardship was sending many of them to their early grave, begged  to the Federal Government to immediately  respond to their pledge and pay their pensions.

Mr. Dele Joseph The Chairman, NUP, Lagos, said the amount at which the members were calling the secretariat to pay pension complaints were causing distress.

 He further said the union could only beg with the government to come to the help of those that permanently stopped work so that they could have money to take care of themselves and those that depend on them.
