According to the southern City News after they were paraded by the Imo State Police Command in Owerri, Nnaji said Christmas and New Year usually reminde them that it was time to rob bank customers and enjoy like the rich within the period.
He further said that the money they made from menial jobs was always not enough for them to live big like wealthy people, saying that they had been in the “business” (robbing bank customers) for a long time.
He said We do it in every festive period, especially Christmas and New Year to also celebrate the period spending like others, who have made money.
The told newsmen that the house help jobs we do would not make us be in line with others during the celebration,” Nnaji, who was apprehended on Friday alongside with his friend, Chibueze Mgboji.
The duo was apprehended by the police after they allegedly attacked a new generation bank and made away with a huge sum of money.
Mr Nnaji, is from Oboro Amurie in Isu Local Government Area, and Mgboji, from Obudi Agwa in Oguta LGA all in IMO state were said to be a two-man gang that specialised in trailing and robbing bank customers in the state capital.
Mr taiwo lakanu the state commissioner of police owerri IMO state Briefing newsmen at the command’s headquarters, he said, that he confirmed that the suspects were arrested while escaping with money stolen from a Fidelity Bank customer in Ikenegbu,area of Owerri.
The CP, who said that it was the alarm raised by the victim that attracted operatives of the police, said, “They were immediately given a hot chase and the were arrested.
Anf money taken from the victim was instantly recovered as they tried to escape.
Mr nnaji and mgboji have confessed to the crime,and the will soon be charged to court.”
Mr tiawo Lakanu noted that the criminals ride on a motorcycle, stating that the two suspects had earlier monitored another bank customer (name withheld) and snatched his bag that is containing N150, 000.
Mr tiawo Lakanu said, “Immediately he came out of the bank with a bag containing money, the duo, operating on a motorcycle, waylaid him and snatched his bag.”
